One can immigrate to US two ways:
Family Based Immigration: If you have brother, sister,father,mother,son,daughter,husband or wife or you get married to someone who is citizen or permanent resident in USA and he/she is willing to sponsor you. It can take anywhere from 1-15 years based on your relationship with the sponsor and other delays in process.

Employment Based Immigration:
Mostly an employer is required who can sponsor you but not always. people with advanced skills or degree or investor with about one million dollor to invest can apply under this category.
